Hebrews
The book of Hebrews is quite challenging, since there are many open questions about authorship, historical setting and audience. More than most New Testament books, Hebrews requires detailed explanations of the background allusions within it, which reference the priesthood of Christ being directly linked to the old Levitical order. Above all, Hebrews deals with the important question, How can we approach God?
Nehemiah
Is the Book of Nehemiah best understood as the memoirs of a great leader, or as a spirited account of God's leading? Jerusalem is rebuilt and the hearts of the people are renewed. From the author of Knowing God comes an insightful look at the dual themes of Nehemiah: how Nehemiah led the people and how God led Nehemiah--all for the glory of God's kingdom.
I Corinthians
The cosmopolitan city of Corinth was the site of one of the apostle Paul's greatest evangelistic successes. However, the church he founded was full of contention, ranging from questions about leadership to incest. Some Christians were taking fellow believers to court. There were issues concerning marriage, celibacy, food offered to idols, public worship, and spiritual gifts. In response, Paul offered some of his most profound thinking on the body of Christ, love, and Jesus' cross and resurrection. Join us as we search the bible together.
Youth Class
Don’t Waste Your Life by John Piper
The Bible says that when God illuminates our hearts at conversion, he gives “the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ” (2 Corinthians 4:6). Either we see the glory of God “in the face of Jesus Christ,” or we don’t see it at all. And “the face of Jesus Christ” is the beauty of Christ reaching its climax in the cross. The bloody face of Christ crucified (and triumphant!) is the countenance of the glory of God. What was once foolishness to us becomes our wisdom and our power and our boast (1 Corinthians 1:18, 24).
Life is wasted if we do not grasp the glory of the cross, cherish it for the treasure that it is, and cleave to it as the highest price of every pleasure and the deepest comfort in every pain.
